August 2020 – Return to Mirror Lake
August saw the older Scouts of the troop return to Mirror Lake to sign off some of their Eagle requirements. The trip took a little detour due to some creative navigation but all the Scouts arrived safe and sound and had a great time. This is a good reminder to always have a map and compass with you at all times and always review the trail plan. We wish all the Scouts working on their Eagle rank the best of luck. It is a great accomplishment.
July 2020 – Mirror Lake Backpacking
In July some of the Scouts headed up to Mirror Lake on the second backpack trip of the year. This was the first trip that included some of the new Scouts. The Scouts worked on lashing & orienteering requirements in addition to adding miles and camping nights to their accomplishments. A few Scouts from the Moss Beard Patrol headed up Tinkham Peak and were rewarded with a breathtaking view from the top and pepperoni sticks.
June 2020 – Cold Creek Camp out
At the end of June, the Boys and Girls patrols hit the Iron Horse Trail to do some hiking and camping. The Scouts hiked approximately 12 miles over the weekend and practiced lashing and several other Scout skills. They also enjoyed a campfire and some delicious smores. It was the first Scout outing since the beginning of the Covid 19 lockdown and the Scouts were happy to be in the fresh air again.
April and May 2020
Covid-19 continued to keep Scouts inside. Many troops around the country began to offer virtual merit badge classes to give Scouts the chance to continue their education. Several of our Scouts took advantage of the classes and will be recognized for their efforts at the Court of Honor in August.
March 2020 Scouting Under Covid-19
March saw an unprecedented event hit the World. Covid-19 and its effects changed the way the Troop did everything. Unfortunately the annual pancake breakfast was canceled due to health concerns. The Scouts are looking forward to getting back to the griddle in 2021. The Troop adjusted to weekly Zoom meetings to keep things moving and support the continued education & advancement of the Scouts. The troop also welcomed a number of new Scouts into both the Boys and Girls side. The new Scouts have jumped in and participate regularly in the weekly virtual meetings.
